    Responsibilities

    The Legal Billing & Support Associate is responsible for the management of the legal billing system.  This position reviews and audits legal invoices and ensures compliance with TDS guidelines.  The Legal Billing & Support Associate will also provide assistance to the Director of Legal Affairs as necessary.  Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

     

    • Providing system setup and ongoing administration and management in support of the TDS Enterprise Legal Billing Guidelines and invoice accounting and approval
    • Identifying and supporting reporting requirements for Finance areas including TDS/U.S. Cellular Audit Committees and TDS Enterprise business areas
    • Partnering with business units and other users to create routine and ad hoc reporting
    • Providing training on legal billing system and supports questions or issues from the users
    • Reviewing TDS Corporate and U.S. Cellular legal invoices for compliance
    • Identifying and addressing discrepancies and working with external legal firms to address any such discrepancies as well as payment due
    • Managing and supporting legal department budget
    • Tracking expenses and preparing/disseminating project costs as requested; including identifying and resolving legal budget variances 
    • Preparing monthly and annual legal accruals
    • Acting as a back-up to Intellectual Property activities  as needed

    Qualifications

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree or 4+ years equivalent work experience
    • 3+ years experience as a paralegal or 1+ years post Juris Doctorate
    • 3+ demonstrated understanding and experience with corporate law and legal billing concepts

    Other Qualifications:

    • Telecommunications industry or related experience preferred
    • Demonstrated knowledge of compliance/risk management related to business, legal and regulatory issues
    • Proficient with Microsoft Office products; must also possess the ability to learn new software packages
    • Demonstrated experience in project leadership roles managing complex projects.
    • Working knowledge of various computer software applications with ability to create reports
    • Demonstrated knowledge of legal billing terms and principles
    • Self-starter and able to handle fast-paced environment and diverse workload
    • Experience managing and prioritizing multiple requests and projects simultaneously
    • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
    • Excellent interpersonal skills that develop high levels of trust, confidence, and business partnering with management and associates
    • Effective time management, multi-tasking, and problem-solving skills
    • Professional demeanor and ability to effectively interact with executive-level internal and external parties
    • Strong working knowledge of contract terms and structure
    • Ability to exercise discretion in the handling of confidential information and negotiate and problem solve in a diplomatic, tactful manner
    • Ability to clearly communicate and present information
